Hello, My name is Melissa. I'm 20 years old. I was born and raised on theNorth side of Chicago, Illinois. I'm not perfect, I've made mistakes,I've had struggles, I've been through ups and downs, if not more thenyour average person. I loveto make people smile and laugh. I don't like to see people sad and I'msure you don't either. You see I'm not much different then your nextdoor neighbor or even your best friend, besides the fact I have adefect in the way my jaws fit together. This defect is called maxillofacial. It effects the way I'm able to chew food and speak. Iget frequent aches and pains in my face, headache, It has also causedmy teeth to shift or move,I can lose my teeth as well, sleep apneawhich is where you stop breathing at night for a few seconds, etc. Maxillofacialdefect also causes an uneven facial appearance, lacking of a facialshape, all of my gums show when I smile, an open bite, which means I amunable to close my lips together without any strain, because there is agap between where my teeth should close, due to both my jaws notmeeting in the correct position, etc. The only way to solve these problems, is through braces and anexpensive surgery called "Maxillofacial Surgery". A surgery that I normy family can afford. In which case I resort to putting the smallamount of extra money I make from odds and ends jobs, all the while Iplan to attend college this summer.
